PT GGL Welcomes West Sulawesi Provincial Government Working Visit

PT Great Giant Livestock (PT GGL) Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung, received a working visit from the West Sulawesi Provincial Government in order to conduct field studies regarding the potential for developing the agricultural and livestock sectors to strengthen synergies between the government and the private sector. West Sulawesi Province Assistant for Economy and Development, Muhtar, and his staff were welcomed at the Great Giant Foods Training Center on Friday (9/8).

Ferdy Fu, as FA Protein & Plant Based SubDiv Head, in his discussion explained that the existence of cattle farming in the company is part of the circular economy concept, where solid waste from pineapple skins is used as animal feed. He also revealed that managing a cattle farming business has its own challenges, especially in terms of capital. Ferdy explained that with the price of a cow ranging from IDR 15 million to IDR 18 million, profits can only be made after several months, while maintenance costs continue.

Ferdy added that livestock management can be done through a partnership pattern, although this is not easy. The main challenge is how to ensure the availability of sufficient feed throughout the year. He gave the example of conditions in West Nusa Tenggara, where there are 4 islands that can be selected for development. According to Ferdy, the availability of feed throughout the year is very important, but to achieve this requires large investments, such as in the procurement of sealer baggers which are quite expensive. Therefore, investment readiness and understanding the consequences need to be considered carefully. “Things like this must be mapped out first by stakeholders who will develop livestock, in addition to considering capital, infrastructure and feed availability,” said Ferdy.

He also mentioned that East Nusa Tenggara has Sumbawa cattle which are left to graze in the fields, but land control is an issue that needs to be considered. Ferdy cannot confirm what model is suitable for West Sulawesi, whether intensive with structured pens or extensive with the integration of oil palm plantations and cattle. “Going back to the issue of capital, then we will talk about empowering farmer-breeder communities through partnerships. What is the business model, what is the role of government and the private sector, and the position of farmers and breeders in this partnership. “All of this needs to be mapped out first because it concerns business strategy,” explained Ferdy when answering questions from guests regarding cattle partnership patterns.

Jakarta Fair: Momentum for New Product Launches

Jakarta Fair 2024 is a strategic forum for Great Giant Foods (GGF) to introduce a number of new product innovations outside the well-known Sunpride brand. Located in Hall C3 No. 63 JI Expo Kemayoran from 12 June to 14 July, GGF presented various fresh products, including fruit other than bananas through the Sunpride trademark.

GGF also enlivened the Jakarta Fair 2024 event by opening a booth displaying various GGF products. Apart from fresh banana products, GGF also introduced Sunpride Lyfe, an innovative high quality banana chip with various flavor choices, such as BBQ, Chili Lemon and Chocolate. Hometown Dairy fresh milk products are also one of the products introduced, made from pure cow’s milk without the addition of water, sugar, fortification or preservatives. Hometown Dairy is processed through pasteurization by heating for 15 seconds at a temperature of 72 degrees Celsius. This process maintains the natural nutritional content of the milk, giving it a delicious, bold and creamy taste.

During the event, GGF also introduced Honi Pineapple, a superior fruit which has been mostly exported. These products were also given as free samples to visitors, which increased enthusiasm for the GGF booth. Apart from the pineapple itself, GGF also provides pineapple-flavored soft-serve ice cream with a creamy texture and a sweet and fresh taste.

Recently, GGF also launched Sunpride canned juice made from Honi Pineapple. President Director of GGF, Tommy Wattimena, explained that Sunpride canned juice is a premium product made entirely from 100% pure fruit juice without added sugar. This makes it far superior to competing products on the market, which generally only contain around 20%, 15%, or even only 5% real fruit juice, with the remaining content consisting of artificial sweeteners or other additives.

Sunpride presents this product in five unique flavor variants, namely pineapple, pineapple guava, pineapple passion fruit, pineapple apple, and pineapple mango, each of which is designed to provide consumers with a fresh and natural taste experience. Tommy Wattimena also emphasized that the entire Sunpride canned juice production process is carried out by following very strict food safety standards and using pasteurization technology. This technology not only functions to kill dangerous microorganisms and ensure the product is safe for consumption, but also maintains the integrity of the taste and natural nutritional content of the fruit juice.

Furthermore, the use of this advanced technology allows Sunpride to produce canned juice that is completely free from preservatives and artificial sweeteners, but still has a long shelf life. Thus, consumers can enjoy the freshness and premium quality of this juice for a longer period of time, without needing to worry about quality degradation. GGF is committed to continuing to maintain these high standards in order to provide products that are not only delicious, but also healthy and safe for all levels of society.

Warungkiara Residents Manage Land Object of Agrarian Reform (TORA) for Cavendish Bananas

Farmers in Warungkiara District have succeeded in optimizing land use for Agrarian Reform Object Land (TORA) by planting thousands of export quality cavendish banana trees, especially in Kampung Lio, Sirnajaya Village, Sukabumi Regency.

Umar Wirahadikusumah, one of the farmers working on TORA land in Kampung Lio, revealed that to produce high quality cavendish banana farming, he and other farmers have received continuous education and guidance from PT Great Giant Pineapple (PT GGP). “All processes are carried out carefully in order to produce cavendish bananas of superior quality,” said Umar.

Umar also added that the existence of land for Cavendish banana plantations is very beneficial for local farmers and the surrounding community, because it can improve the economy of local residents. “The initial stage from planting to harvest takes about one year, but after that, in the second year, these banana trees can be harvested twice a year,” he explained.

PT GGP’s Person In Charge (PIC) for the Sukabumi area, Muhammad Fikrul Ilmi Nasiruddin, explained that the land currently used by farmers was previously an abandoned plantation whose operational permit had not been renewed. Since 2022, this land will be distributed to the community, especially sharecroppers, to plant Cavendish banana seeds. “To ensure maximum harvest results, PT GGP directly provides knowledge and technical assistance to cultivating farmers,” said Fikrul. Fikrul also said that the PT GGP team routinely provides education to farmers about the procedures that must be followed to produce high quality bananas, including the washing, selection and weighing stages. Currently, the land managed by the community covers 10.7 hectares, with approximately 13 thousand banana trees managed by farmers.

If we use AI well, diversity will create good productivity & great innovative ways of business.โ€
