GOALL 3 GGF Jakarta

GOALL 3, a GGF employee town hall event, is an annual event in the series of halal bihalal events. Apart from being attended by employees, the GGF town hall in Jakarta was also attended by Husodo Angkosubroto as President Commissioner of GGF, Setiawan Achmad and Edhi Tamboto as Commissioners of GGF, Tommy Wattimena as President Director of GGF and accompanied by the board of directors (BOD). This event will take place on Tuesday, May 14 2024, in the Collaboration Room, Sequis Tower.

The company’s achievements, prospects for the first quarter, company values and strategies as well as economic developments in Indonesia were things that were discussed in the town hall session. “Seeing that GDP growth in Indonesia has increased by 5%, this could happen because of the condition of a country where the people cannot afford it, they will get rich by doing exporting. “On the other hand, if the people are starting to be able to do it, then they want to do more local business,” said Husodo. Talking about cost leadership, Husodo also said, “We must maintain cost leadership & competitive advantage which is supported by our innovation and differentiation. Don’t forget that as GGF talent, we all have a role in helping the company achieve its goals.”

Apart from that, business updates are also one of the things conveyed in the town hall session. Tommy Wattimena, President Director of GGF, discussed the company’s achievements and also discussed one by one what the company will do to achieve the company’s vision and mission in the next 5-10 years. Tommy said he would penetrate deeper into fresh fruit by selling cold fruit using carts with the theme “we can go lower” like the coffee currently sold at affordable prices. For the GGF brand, namely Sunpride, Tommy said there would be more categories, considering that fruit-based is very possible to explore. “Talking about LOB, LOB has very high potential. “A lot of agricultural land has been damaged due to the use of chemical fertilizers, and the whole world has certainly taken the initiative to reduce this use, fortunately we already have our own biofertilizer,” he added.

Sustainability was also something that Tommy discussed. Apart from winning many awards, Tommy reminded us of the four sustainability strategies that GGF has, namely: reducing the impact of CO2 use, regenerative agriculture, circularity, and precision & digital assistance farming.

LOB Demonstration Plot Increases Rice Production Tonnage

The demonstration plot of liquid biological fertilizer Liquid Organic Biofertilizer (LOB) which was applied to rice plants resulted in quite satisfactory results for farmers. The LOB demonstration plot has been accompanied by treatment to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers by 25 percent and 50 percent. However, the grain produced reached a tonnage of 9 tons per hectare compared to the control land where the tonnage was only 6 tons in one planting.

Through Big Farmers Field Day, PT Inbio Tani Nusantara (ITN) is committed to helping increase rice farmers’ crop production through the use of LOB liquid biofertilizer products. LOB technology is in line with the Ministry of Agriculture’s goal of reducing chemical residues on agricultural land. This was conveyed by the Head of the Lampung Agricultural Technology Study Center, Jekvy Hendra, who was present at the Big Farmers Field Day event at the LOB Liquid Biofertilizer demonstration plot in collaboration with the Lampung Province Agricultural Instrument Standardization Agency (BSIP) in Bumiharjo Village, Batanghari District, Lampung Regency East, Thursday (28/3).

Jekvy said that by implementing the use of LOB in rice fields, the harvest can be abundant. Apart from increasing production, LOB can also help meet national rice needs. “Today’s harvest, by reducing the application of chemical fertilizers, has proven that LOB has shown a good increase in yields. “Usually it’s only 6 tons, with LOB it can reach 9 tons per hectare,” said Jekvy. Furthermore, he emphasized that given the scarcity of chemical fertilizers, rising prices of agricultural inputs, and uncertain seasons, LOB is the best solution to help agriculture in Lampung.

Present at the joint harvest event at the LOB and BSIP Lampung demonstration plot locations included the Head of the Food Crops Division of Lampung Province Ida Rahmawati, the Head of the East Lampung Food Security Service Tri Wibowo, the Head of the Batanghari District Mira Hayati, the Head of the Batanghari Police, Iptu Erson Hamzah, the Danramil Batanghari Captain Inf Jumingan, as well as the farmers from three districts who have implemented LOB on their agricultural land are from South Lampung, Central Lampung and East Lampung.

Also present were the entire management of Great Giant Foods (GGF) and PT Inbio Tani Nusantara, including CEO Protein & Plant Based Josep Lay, Director of External Affairs Welly Soegiono, and LOB & Compost Production Head Pardi Tanojo. Head of the East Lampung Food Security Service, Tri Wibowo, also expressed his thanks to PT ITN for introducing LOB as a revolutionary product to farmers and hopes that it can soon be massively adapted to agricultural land.

“We really support the launch of LOB. We hope that if this LOB is very beneficial for farmers, the price will not be increased. “It’s time for farmers to prosper and not be underestimated,” said Tri.

Meanwhile, in his speech, Josep Lay emphasized that the LOB was created based on the company’s needs and experience as the largest pineapple plantation and canning industry in the world. Because the LOB product has been proven to be good, it has been tested on farmers. It turns out the results are very satisfying, as we saw today’s rice harvest using LOB biological liquid fertilizer. “Through this product, we hope to help improve the welfare of farmers. This LOB demonstration plot has been carried out until the fourth season of rice planting, the increase in production reached 29 percent. “If something is good and the benefits can be felt, the new company will share it with farmers,” said Josep.

Misrok, a farmer from Sekampung Village, East Lampung, said that providing LOB can help increase harvests and reduce the use of pesticides. Imam, a farmer from Batanghari Village, said that he has been using LOB since 2019 and has gradually reduced the use of chemical fertilizers. Furthermore, Dharmaya, a farmer from South Lampung, admitted that he had been using LOB since 2016 in his rice fields and until now continues to apply LOB because his crop yields are increasing.

Collaboration between PT GGP and UGM in Biochar Research

The research team from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) led by Dr. Agus Kuncaka DEA, together with PT Great Giant Pineapple (GGP), monitored research on UGM immobilized humic acid and fulvic acid (AHAF) biochar, on Wednesday (22/3).

Monitoring was carried out in the soil and feed workshop of the UGM Department of Chemistry located in Pakisaji Village, Candibinangun, Pakem, Sleman. This research aims to increase soil fertility and pineapple production through the application of AHAF immobilized biochar, a product from the Ministry of Kim. Biochar is charcoal produced from the pyrolysis process of biomass, while humic acid and fulvic acid are building blocks for healthy soil.

Although both come from humus, their roles are very different. Working together, humic acid and fulvic acid provide great benefits to agriculture. Both create healthy soil rich in microbes, improve plant health, and increase crop yields. One of the greatest benefits of humic acid and fulvic acid is the increase in root mass even at low concentrations. Increasing root mass allows plants to obtain more macro and micro nutrients in the soil to be passed on to the leaves and fruit.

Pineapple planting for this research began on November 23 2023. Monitoring was carried out to observe the growth of pineapple plants and soil conditions. Agus Kuncaka explained that this research is expected to produce solutions to increase soil fertility and pineapple production. “It is hoped that this research can increase soil fertility and pineapple production. “It is also hoped that the results of this research can help pineapple farmers increase their harvests,” said Agus Kuncaka.

This research collaboration is one form of UGM’s contribution to supporting food security and the welfare of pineapple farmers in Indonesia. This research is in line with SDGs number 2, namely no hunger, and number 3, namely healthy and prosperous life. This can be seen from the solutions that are beneficial for pineapple farmers, the pineapple industry and national food security.

Thus, the visit and cooperation agenda carried out has an impact that is in line with the needs of the SDGs points. UGM is committed to continuing to carry out research and technological development to improve the quality and competitiveness of Indonesian agricultural products.
