PT UJA’s supply of cassava raw materials will increase by 30 percent in 2023

PT Umas Jaya Agrotama (PT UJA) Terbanggi Besar, has succeeded in increasing the supply of cassava raw materials by 30 percent in 2023. Fulfillment of cassava raw materials entering the factory is supported, in part, by the cassava partnership program carried out by PT UJA with cassava farmers.

The partnership program which will start in mid-2022 will also help factories obtain supplies of cassava raw materials. Currently, the partnership program has reached more than 400 hectares of land spread across 5 districts, namely Central Lampung, North Lampung, Tulang Bawang, West Tulang Bawang, Mesuji, spread across 8 sub-districts and 23 villages.

“The actual achievement of cassava raw material supply reached 30 percent higher than the planned budget target,” said UJA Production Head Mr. Ammar Viko Wicaksono.

With the increase in cassava raw materials entering the factory, of course the achievement of the Tapioca flour production target will also increase. Tapioca flour production in 2023 will reach 136% of the target.
According to him, the achievement in 2023 will be the best achievement in the last 10 years since 2013.

The increase in production is of course very dependent on the supply of cassava raw materials entering the factory. During the high season in early 2023, the factory will still be able to produce high levels. Apart from that, the factory has also recently expanded so that it can take advantage of as much as possible when cassava is abundant, he added.

Cassava starch levels are also quite good from the beginning to the middle of the year, but start to fall during El Nino due to the effect of farmers not being able to fertilize so that nutrients to increase starch levels decrease, he explained.

“Recovery in 2023 will be the best condition in the last 4 years in 2023,” stressed Mr. Ammar.

The cassava partnership program really helps farmers because this program provides loan fees that will be returned at harvest. Apart from that, farmers also receive assistance and guidance from PT UJA on how to plant cassava properly according to care standards until harvest.

The partnership is open and not coercive, when there are farmers who want to join, PT UJA will facilitate land surveys, file administration, if it meets the partnership program standards, farmers can join. Farmers who own 0.5 hectares of land can join in the partnership.

“PT UJA is targeting twice as much cassava from the partnership program by 2024,” said Mr Ammar.

He said, apart from the partnership program, there are financing funds, when farmers supply supplies to the factory, they don’t need to queue and can just unload. And if problems occur in farmers’ crops, the PT UJA partnership team always coordinates with the Great Giant Foods (GGF) Research Team to directly evaluate what conditions in the field are like so that there are recommendations for treating disease in plants.

“Several recommendations from the research team have been implemented on partner land that is experiencing pest and disease problems,” he stressed.

Exploring Inspiration from Kartini Day Commemoration

Kartini Day, which is celebrated every April 21, is a precious opportunity for us to celebrate the struggle and legacy of Raden Ajeng Kartini. In the spirit of this commemoration, we can draw inspiration from Kartini’s spirit in realizing gender equality in our internal environment. This article will explain why commemoration of Kartini Day is important for us as individuals and organizations, as well as how we can apply Kartini values in everyday life.

Before we can take inspiration from Kartini, it is important for us to understand her struggle. Kartini was a female figure who fought for equal education, freedom and equal rights for women in a patriarchal era. She leads by example and strong passion to change society’s paradigm regarding the role of women. Through her courage, Kartini became a symbol of women who dare to pursue their dreams and fight for gender equality.

Commemoration of Kartini Day can be a momentum for organizations to reflect on their commitment to gender equality. It is important for us to evaluate existing policies and practices in our work environment. Are there equal opportunities and supports for all individuals, regardless of gender? Is there awareness of the importance of promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace? In the spirit of Kartini, we must be committed to creating a fair and inclusive culture within our organization.

One of the main points fought for by Kartini was equal education for women. In a corporate context, it is important for us to provide equal educational and development opportunities for all individuals, regardless of gender. This can be done through training, mentoring programs, or access to educational resources. By providing equal opportunities, we strengthen Kartini’s vision of empowering women through education.

Kartini is a real example of a woman who dares to lead and inspire others. In our organizations, it is important to encourage and support women’s leadership. This includes providing opportunities for women to take on leadership roles, ensuring fairness in the promotion system, and creating an environment that supports career growth and development for all individuals, regardless of gender.

Commemoration of Kartini Day can also be an opportunity for us to share and gain inspiration from women’s success stories in the internal environment. We can hold discussions or lectures involving women who have achieved success in various fields. Telling their stories will inspire and provide an example for other individuals, as well as encourage Kartini’s fighting spirit within them.

Commemoration of Kartini Day is a valuable momentum for us to gain inspiration from the spirit and struggle of Raden Ajeng Kartini. In our internal environment, we can apply Kartini’s values by encouraging gender equality, providing equal educational and development opportunities, encouraging women’s leadership, and drawing inspiration from the success stories of women around us. By adopting these values, we create an inclusive environment and provide opportunities for all individuals to achieve their potential without gender barriers. Let’s celebrate Kartini Day with the same spirit, fight for gender equality in our internal environment, and pay tribute to women who have fought and inspired us like Kartini.

Cassava Partnership is a collaboration program between CSV PT UJA and farmers, an effort made by the government through the Ministry of Development of Disadvantaged Villages and Transmigration to advance communities in transmigration and rural areas, especially in Mesuji Regency.

The event was held in Bukoposo Village, Way Serdang Mesuji District, attended by the Director of Planning for the Realization of Transmigration Areas, Mr. Bambang Widyatmiko, Functional Community Self-Help Activator, Main Expert, Mrs. Aisyah Gamawati, Head of the Transmigration Division, Community Empowerment, Village and Transmigration Service, Lampung Province, Mr. Muhammad Arifin, Assistant for Economic Affairs and Development of the Mesuji Regional Secretariat, Mr. Indra Kusuma Wijaya, Production Head of PT Umas Jaya Agrotama, Mr. Ammar Viko Wicaksono, Head of the Mesuji Regency PMD Service, Anwar Pamuji, Head of Bukoposo Village, Mr. Anwar, Head of Bumdes, Mr. Bukoposo Darmanto, and Way Serdang District Agricultural Extension Officer.

“The first cassava partnership harvest was a collaboration between PT Umas Jaya Agrotama and the Mesuji Regency Government and the Ministry of Empowerment of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration,” said Mr. Bambang Widyatmiko.

Mr. Bambang said that the cassava partnership program developed in Mesuji Regency was the first cassava cultivation cooperation program in Indonesia. According to Mr Bambang, if this program is successful it will be developed as widely as possible and involve many farmers. He emphasized that why this program is in Mesuji is because the area is close to PT Umas Jaya Agrotama so that assistance and supervision is easier.

PT UJA itself is part of the Great Giant Foods Business Unit, including PT Great Giant Pineapple which has also successfully developed a CSV program with banana crop commodities. And the CSV program has been carried out in 9 districts in provinces in Indonesia. These include Tanggamus-Lampung, Jember-East Java, Ponorogo, East Java, Jembrana-Bali, Bener Meriah-Aceh, and Subang-West Java, etc.

“It is very easy for farmers who take part in this partnership, apart from providing capital in the form of a loan, there is also technical guidance for their cultivation from PT UJA as the offtaker. What’s more interesting is that this program also involves the Bundes as operational facilitators in the field so that coordination is more organized. “Please the community to join because this program is very profitable for farmers,” stressed Mr. Bambang.

Assistant for the Economy and Development of the Mesuji Regional Secretariat, Mr. Indra, representing the Acting Regent of Mesuji, Sulpakar, expressed his congratulations and deepest appreciation for the holding of this First Harvest.

“The CSV program is one of the efforts carried out by the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia to advance communities in Transmigration Areas and Rural Areas, especially in KPPN and KTPN Mesuji. “This program aims to create shared value between companies, communities and the government by developing the potential of agricultural commodities in the regions,” said the regent in his written remarks.

“Hopefully this first harvest will be the initial basis for maximizing cassava production and can improve the community’s economy and maintain solidity between the government and the Ministry of Villages and Transmigration and PT Umas Jaya Agrotama,” he said.

The Mesuji Regional Government certainly gives its appreciation for holding the first harvest activity today. This program is a follow-up to the Cassava Partnership program which was carried out in June 2023 in Bukoposo Village, Way Serdang District. The land of farmers registered in this program is 8 hectares with a planting period of 8-9 months.

“To express our deepest appreciation and thanks for the help of all parties, especially PT Umas Jaya Agrotama, I hope this program can continue and continue to develop as widely as possible in Mesuji Regency,” said Mr. Indra Kusuma Wijaya.

In his statement, Mr. Ammar explained that previously farmers did not have good seeds, in terms of cultivation activities they were also not very good, so with this partnership, everything from tillage to fertilization was assisted in order to get better results.

“It is proven that before the partnership, production was only 20 tonnes per hectare, during the first harvest with the partnership pattern the estimated tonnage could reach 32 tonnes per hectare, an increase of around 10 tonnes per hectare,” explained Mr Ammar.

The Cassava Partnership program has several advantages, such as providing interest-free financing, where all costs of cassava cultivation will be borne by the company and will be deducted at harvest, providing price certainty, getting priority in service including in terms of weighing, unloading and cashier queues.

This program provides market certainty for partner farmers. Farmers who join this partnership program will have guaranteed sales of their cassava and this program also guarantees the quality of farming inputs, such as land, seeds, labor and fertilizer, he said.

PT GGP Receives a Working Visit from the Government of Madiun Regency, East Java

PT Great Giant Pineapple (PT GGP) Terbanggi Besar received a visit from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries along with representatives of millennial farmers from Madiun Regency, East Java.

The visit agenda lasted for two days. The first day of the visit was at the Cavendish banana plantation of PT GGP Terbanggi Besar, Friday (23/2/24). Furthermore, visiting guests from the Madiun Regency Government also went to the PT GGP partner Mas banana partnership center located in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province, Saturday (24/2/24).

Head of the Madiun Regency Agriculture and Fisheries Service, Mr. Sumanto and his entourage, were received by the Corporate Affair Lampung Subdiv Head, Mr. Hendri Tanujaya, in the Library Room of the Great Giant Foods Lampung Training Center Building.

“By visiting PT GGP directly, we hope to be able to get motivation and education, especially the millennial farmers who are taking part in this visit. “It can open insight and share knowledge regarding the cultivation of banana plants that are being developed,” said Mr Sumanto.

In fact, we have also communicated and shared with several personnel in the Blitar banana plantation group from PT GGP. In terms of regulations, we have it, but in terms of technology and professionalism, we don’t have it and PT GGP has it.

“We want PT GGP to encourage the development of partnership patterns with those in Blitar and farmers in Madiun so that the independence of millennial farmers can develop, especially in terms of banana cultivation,” he said.

Of course, the Madiun Regional Government would like to express its gratitude for the welcome given by PT GGP so that this friendship can have a long-term impact because we need guidance, direction and guidance. The most important thing is how agriculture in Madiun can be more developed and advanced like PT GGP.

Mr. Hendri Tanujaya, explained that the partnership pattern carried out by the company was aimed at nothing other than helping the community, especially in the agricultural sector. It turns out that with the Creating Shared Value (CSV) program, farmers are happy.

The company prepares seeds and supervisory staff to assist partner farmers. The company also provides simplified banana cultivation care standards so that they are easy for farmers to understand.

“The company prepares the seeds, it’s just a matter of how the farmers care for and look after the plants. “The company as an offtaker takes one hundred percent of the farmers’ banana fruit production, of course with the standards and quality of the fruit according to the cluster,” explained Mr. Hendri Tanujaya.

Furthermore, he explained, coincidentally PT GGP is a Bonded Zone, so in Tanggamus we are negotiating with Customs and Excise to make it a Bonded Zone Sub-Contract Zone. So there are several conveniences provided by the government, in this case customs duties, to partner farmers through PT GGP.

Some goods needed by partner farmers can be supplied from the Company and they are not allowed to take advantage of these transactions. For example, the farmer’s price for fertilizer supplies is the same as the price purchased by the company.

“Fertilizer is expensive, hard to get, and not genuine, so it can be supplied by the company. Companies must not make a profit. This is one of the benefits that partner farmers can also get. Farmers can supply fertilizer at affordable prices. “This is one thing that PT GGP can do to help fellow farmers,” stressed Mr. Hendri Tanujaya.
