Industrial Visit of the Chancellor of Jenderal Soedirman University to GGF Lampung

Lecturers together with the Chancellor of Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) made an industrial visit to Great Giant Foods (GGF) Lampung, Friday (2/12). The industrial visit of Unsoed Chancellor Akhmad Sodiq and the lecturers aims to find out directly from practitioners and explore new knowledge from the industrial world.

The agenda for the first visit began with introductions to Unsoed alumni who have worked at GGF as well as presentations from GGF management representatives represented by GOFF Director Supriono Loekito who is also an Unsoed alumni.

In short, Supriono Loekito introduced GGF in the company’s journey, the product process until it is ready for export.

“Our arrival at GGF wanted to add to our knowledge, the real conditions in the field, especially for the industrial world, especially pineapple processing. And it is hoped that it will bring the Jenderal Soedirman University closer to the company,” said Ahkmad Sodiq.

Another goal is the desire to learn and see the integration of zero waste with the concept of Low-Input Sustainable Agriculture (LISA). Sustainable agriculture from an agriculture perspective also turns out to be promising until it can be exported, continued the Chancellor.

Knowledge like this is ideal for students to know. So the hope is that this will update students with conditions in the field. “Hopefully with this visit there will be collaboration such as students can do internships at GGF or the fastest is friends who already have experience and knowledge related to the pineapple industry can visit campus to impart knowledge to students,” explained Ahkmad.

In addition to material presentations, the lecturers were also invited to tour the garden area and business units at GGF, including the Banana Packing location, and the pineapple harvesting process.

We are aware that in the campus world the hope is that there are two mandates, namely the mandate to prepare superior human resources and the second is the development of science and technology.

“We came to learn more from this international company. Sometimes the instructors feel that they have enough knowledge, but in fact they learn a lot when they arrive at GGF. The campus also hopes that there will be teaching practitioners from GGF on the Unsoed campus,” said Akhmad.

Promising Economic Value Harvest of Cavendish Bananas from PT GGP’s Shade Demonstration Plot

The Coordinating Ministry for the Economy of the Republic of Indonesia chose Bondowoso to be one of the demonstration plots or demonstration plots for planting export-quality Cavendish bananas in Indonesia. In this case, PT Great Giant Pineapple is the off-taker or guarantor of the demonstration plot farming commodities.

The Cavendish banana product from the Bondowoso demonstration plot won praise from the Indonesian Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration (Mendes PDTT), Abdul Halim Iskandar.

Minister Halim’s praise came out during the first harvest of Cavendish bananas at the Agriculture and Food Security Agency’s nursery demonstration plot, Maskuning Kulon Village, Pujer District, Bondowoso, Saturday, November 26 2022.

“Cavendish bananas from the Bondowoso demonstration plot are the best among the other demonstration plots in East Java,” he said.

Minister Halim asked Bondowoso Regent Salwa Arifin to immediately expand the area for planting export-oriented bananas, which in Indonesia are known as Ambon Putih bananas. Because, the government supports the expansion of the Cavendish banana land in Bondowoso.

“The Ministry of Health also fully supports Cavendish bananas from Bondowoso to continue to exist in the future. One of them is through BUMDes so that it is easy to coordinate in developing Cavendish bananas,” he said.

In line with Minister Halim, Deputy Governor (Wagub) of East Java, Emil Elistianto Dardak also said that the quality of Cavendish bananas from the first harvest of the Bondowoso demonstration plot was the best compared to other demonstration plots in East Java. For this reason, the Bondowoso Regency Government needs to expand the Cavendish banana land, because the export market is open and the potential for a large turnover.

With the quality of the Cavendish bananas produced, Bondowoso can become a center for producing Cavendish bananas in East Java, and even Indonesia. “So Bondowoso will not only be known for his tapes and coffee. But, get ready to become Bondowoso Banana Republic,” he said.

Minister Halim and Deputy Governor Emil Dardak first harvested Cavendish bananas at the Maskuning Kulon Village Dispertapang Garden demonstration plot, Pujer District, accompanied by Bondowoso Regent Salwa Arifin, Regional Secretary Bambang Soekwanto, as well as a number of officials from the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Village PDTT. Also present were the Regents of Jember, Banyuwangi, Ponorogo, and Bener Meriah, Aceh.

The first harvest of Cavendish bananas from the Bondowoso demonstration plot was the result of planting on January 29, 2022. At that time, the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and Regent Salwa Arifin first planted 2,425 Cavendish banana seedlings in a 1.6 hectare demonstration plot.

“After 10 months since planting, the result is now that Cavendish bananas from the Bondowoso demonstration plot are being harvested,” said the Head of Bondowoso Dispertapang, Hendri Widotono, Saturday, November 26, 2022.

PT GGP Helps Rehabilitate the Suspension Bridge of Tanjung Ratu Ilir Village

PT Great Giant Pineapple (PT GGP), Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung, provided assistance to repair a suspension bridge in Kampung Tanjung Ratu Ilir, Way Pengubuhan District, whose condition was badly damaged because the floorboards were starting to become brittle and some were missing.

The suspension bridge with a length of up to 12 meters is an access connecting two villages, namely Kampung Purnama Tunggal and Kampung Tanjung Ratu Ilir.

Its condition is badly damaged, especially on the plank floors, making it difficult for residents to cross using two-wheeled vehicles because some of the bridge floors are weathered due to age.

“It’s difficult for residents to cross on foot. You need to be careful because some of the boards are brittle and some have holes because the boards are gone,” said the Head of Banjar Village, Ratu Dulhadi.

Agustian, as a GGF CRD staff, said that the repair of one suspension bridge unit was carried out by the company because it was concerned about the condition of the residents, especially those who work as farmers because they had difficulty accessing arable land and had to cross the river because the bridge was in a damaged condition.

“Especially during the rainy season, residents have difficulty reaching their cultivated land. Thank God, after repairing the bridge, residents no longer have trouble transporting agricultural products,” said Agustian, Tuesday (16/11).

In addition to the suspension bridge repair assistance, PT GGP also provided assistance for the repair and procurement of facilities and infrastructure for the Office of the Head of Kampung Banjar Ratu. The assistance was received directly by Kakam Banjar Ratu Dulhadi, said Agustian
